A good accompaniment of chapathi and rice.
thoor dhal – 1/2 cup
turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
onion,sliced – 1/4 cup
green chillies,split lengthwise- 3
garlic,minced – 1 teaspoon
ginger,minced – 1 teaspoon
tomato,chopped – 1/2 cup
salt – to taste
oil – 1 tablespoon
mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspon
dry red chilly – 2
curry leaves – a few
Step 1 Wash the dhal. Pressure cook the dhal,turmeric powder, and 1 1/4 cups of water till 1 whistle.
Step 2 Next,open the pressure cooker once it is cool, and stir in the onion,green chilies, garlic,and ginger and simmer uncovered ,for 5 minutes, or until the onions are soft.
Step 3 Add the tomato and salt and cook another 5 -10 minutes,or until the tomatoes anre cooked and are not falling apart.Remove from heat.
Step 4 In a small frying pan heat the oil over medium high heat. Add the mustard seeds. When the seeds have popped toss in the dried red chilies and curry leaves. After the leaves crackle,pour the contents into the dhal and stir to combine.
