Meen Bake



1.karimeen/butterfish/avoli – 2 full, big
2.chilly powder – 2 teaspoon
kashmiri chilly – 1 teaspoon
ginger – 1 inch
pepper powder – 1/2 teaspoon
turmeric powder- 1/4 teaspoon
garlic – 15
shallots- 15
vinegar- 1 1/2 teaspoon
salt – to taste
3.all-purpose flour/maida – a little
4.oil – 3-4 tsp
5.onion – 1 big
ginger – 1/2 inch
6.tomato,cut – 1
7.salt – to taste
8.thick coconut milk – 1/2 cup(divided)


Step 1 Preheat the oven to 365 degrees.

Step 2 Wash the fish and give 3 gashes on each side of the fish, that is till the knife touches the bone of the fish.
Grind ingredients mentioned in number 2 and marinate the fish with half of the mixture for half an hour.
Rest of the mixture keep it aside.


Step 3 Sprinkle the fish with all-purpose flour and fry the fish.


Step 4 In the same pan, saute the onion and ginger along with the ground mixture.(If the oil is more please use only what is required for sauteing.)

Step 5 Once the onion has turned translucent add in the chopped tomato and saute it for another 4-5 minutes till the oil appears.


Step 6 In an aluminium foil, place the fish and spread the masala on its both sides. Pour 1/4 cup coconut milk on top. Wrap it well so that no masalas come out.


Step 7 Bake it at 365 degrees for about 20-30 minutes.
