Happy New Year everyone. Let GOD shower his blessings abundantly on us the following days. Its the time when we take new resolutions. A time when we think we ought to get everything right and of course the time to break our resolutions too. :)
In this post I am sharing with you how to make a Black Forest Cake. I have tried to put a step-by-step presentation of the same. Hope this helps.
Morello Cherries in syrup – 700 ml jar
granulated white sugar- 1/4 cup
hot melted unsalted butter – 3 tablespoons
cake flour/maida – 1/2 cup
salt – 1/4 tsp
unsweetened regular cocoa powder- 1/3 cup
egg – 4
granulated white sugar – 2/3 cup
vanilla extract – 1 tsp
Whipped Cream Frosting
Step 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F .
Step 2. In a bowl, sift the flour, salt and cocoa powder.
Step 3. In a heatproof bowl whisk the eggs with sugar.
Step 4. Double boil the mixture whisking continuously for 5 minutes.
Step 5. Beat the mixture on high speed until thick for about 5 minutes until it falls in a ribbon-like pattern.
Step 6. Beat in the vanilla extract.
Step 7. Sift about 1/3 of the flour mixture and mix well. Repeat for rest of the flour mixture.
Step 8. Melt the butter.
Step 9. Put about 1/2 cup of the chocolate mixture in the melted butter and mix it well.
Step 10. Now, gently mix it with the rest of the chocolate mix.
Step 11. Butter a 9 inch round cake pan and line the bottom of pan with parchment paper. Pour into your pan, smoothing the top. Bake for about 20 – 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 12. Using a sharp knife, cut the cake, horizontally, into two layers. Turn over the top layer of the cake and place on your serving plate.
Step 13. Place 1 cup of the cherry syrup in a small saucepan, along with the sugar, and heat until sugar has dissolved.
Step 16. Brush the cut-side of second cake layer with 1/4 cup syrup. Place cut-side down on top of the cherries, gently pressing to compact. Spread the remaining cream over top and sides of cake. Place cream in a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip and pipe rosettes on top of cake.
Decorate with fresh cherries and shaved chocolate.
