A small peek to the facts ….of Vishu.

Vishu is a Hindu festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala , usually in the second week of April.   It marks the new year in accordance with the Malayalam calendar, known as the Kolla Varsha.

It is Baisakhi for people of North India, particularly Punjab thank God for good harvest.

Badami besan ke laddu is one of the sweets made byNorth Indians on  auspicious occasions. It is a very simple and tasty laddu made of flour and sugar with other ingredients that vary by recipe.I have been longing to make this for a long time…..and at last …..:) 

Now on to the recipe.


almonds (crushed)-25 -30
gram flour/kadalamaavu (besan) – 2  cups
granulated sugar – 1  cup
ghee – 3/4 cup
cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp

Heat ghee in a wok and add cardamom powder. Add gram flour and roast on low heat till a nice aroma comes out, say for approximately ten minutes.Transfer the roasted gram flour to a bowl and add crushed almonds and mix. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding powdered sugar. Add sugar and mix. Roll into even sized laddoos. Cool and store.
