Moru Curry

“Moru” in English is Buttermilk.This is one of the common dish prepared in most of the Kerala households.This curry can be prepared by varying the ingredients.Moru Curry goes well with rice.


1.kumbalanga/winter melon-1/4 of a medium size melon(peeled and deseeded)
green chilly,cut in length-6
turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
salt-as required
water -1/2 cup

To grind

coconut scrapped-1cup
cumin seeds-1/4 teaspoon
curd-2 cups

For seasoning

mustard-1/4 tsp
red dry chilly-3
curry leaves- a sprig


Grind the ingredients mentioned under “to grind” and keep it aside.
In a cooker, cook all the items mentioned under no. 1 till 1 whistle.
next,in the cooker,pour in the ground mixture,add water i.e. just enough to make the curry and boil it in low flame.
Finally,season it.
